Shrek 3

We took Josh to go see Shrek 3 today.  We have seen the first two probably two thousand times so we (Tara and I) were really looking forward to seeing a different Shrek.  Josh was very excited too, but I think that was just to go to a movie in a movie theatre.  We don’t do this often.  It was a good movie and Josh laughed quite a bit.  He also almost fell asleep a couple times.  In talking with Tara afterwards, we both found several times where the adults were laughing and the kids were asking why were we laughing.  Josh asked me a couple times.  I didn’t want to go into the conversation about why the woment were burning their bras.

We have been working a lot with Josh on swimming and riding his bike.  He is now riding his bike without training wheels.  He isn’t very good yet, but he is getting there.  We are also trying to teach him how to swim.  He knows the mechanics but he just doesn’t have the confidence.  With Tara being done teaching for the summer after this week, we hope that we can get him swimming like a pro in no time.  :)

Playing catch

One of Josh’s favorite past-times is playing catch.  Up until recently it had been trying to play catch.  He could throw it to me just fine but he would have difficulty catching the ball.  Part of the problem is the size of the glove as it is a little too big for him. However, he is getting use to it and as long as I get the ball in the area, he is getting good at catching it.  I am beginning to like this game more and more!

Josh has also been practicing reading.  Tara has been working hard with him on word recognition.  When we read bedtime stories we stop at the three words “and”, “to” and “the” so Josh can read them.  He gets them right most of the time but he does get lazy as well.  What do you expect, he is only four!  :)

Learning to ride

I finally took the training wheels off of Josh’s bike.  We have gone out a couple times but he was too scared to try riding without them.  We went to the park this last weekend so he could practice in the grass.  We found a small hill and I pushed him down it.  The first time I ran beside him as he rode his bike down the hill, but he didn’t need me to.  He did a great job of keeping his balance and went as far as he could.  It was a little difficult pedaling in the grass once it leveled off but I was very proud of him.  We’ll keep practicing!!  If he is anything like me you will see him riding wheelies or standing on his seat while riding down the street.
